Bitesize Prediction: Avai vs Botafogo SP – 28/07/25

Competition: Brazil Serie B

Market: Both teams to score – No

Odds: 3/5 @ BetUS

Two camps who are desperately seeking some kind of Serie B stability, Avai will welcome Botafogo to Santa Catarina late on Monday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Avai might know that they can move within touching distance of the promotion places on Monday night, Jair Ventura’s camp are enduring what has been a worrying rut. Suffering a collapse away at Remo last time out as they eventually fell to a 2-1 loss, the former Goias boss has seen his squad muster just a single win from any of their previous seven straight Serie B appearances – a run that stems back to June 8th. Putting in what was a nightmare performance earlier in the month as they slumped to a 4-0 drumming at the hands of Athletic Club, the Santa Catarina-based outfit have also failed to register consecutive victories since the end of April. Getting July underway with a 0-0 stalemate at home against Paysandu, Monday’s hosts have also shown some attacking struggles. In fact, Ventura’s side have failed to notch more than a single strike in eight of their last nine Serie B outings.

As for the visitors, while Botafogo might have clinched back-to-back Serie B wins on either side of opening July, Marcio Zanardi’s side have come crashing back down to earth. Last seen putting in another toothless performance as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home against Criciuma, the Panthers have failed to win any of their previous four appearances. Sat rock-bottom of the table and pencilled in as a leading relegation candidate in 2025, Monday’s guests have also gained a reputation for their own respective attacking issues. Including a routine 3-0 drumming against Amazonas in their last showdown outside of Sao Paulo, Botafogo have drawn a blank in all of their previous four consecutive outings. Likewise, notching just 12 goals in their 18 Serie B appearances so far this season, no team among Brazil’s second-tier have recorded fewer goals this year. It should also be noted, Zanardi’s men have registered just a single strike on their travels since the end of May.
