IF Chelsea manage to get Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons in the door and sort the outgoing deals that we need to get done. Then we are just a goalkeeper away from a VERY good transfer window this summer.
I canât quite call it perfect, because Iâll be honest and say that I still carry a bit of concern about the 9s we have. Not loads, and people know I rate Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro is class. But for me, thereâs still some questions that need answering in that position regardless of what happens with Nicolas Jackson.
I also think we could use another out and out centre back to call it a perfect window but again, this may well depend on outgoings. But despite a better end to the season, I do not fully trust our current out and out centre back options, so this stays another question mark for me.
But the priority MUST be a new goalkeeper, and no I donât care that Robert Sanchez had a better end to the season (I do care as it was obviously great for Chelsea and for him but you get my point). Does that cancel out the awful one and a half seasons heâs had before then? NO, it does not. Sanchez will always have those huge brain fart moments in him and will not give us the confidence needed at the back. That has not changed for me at this stage, and I know it has not changed for the majority of Chelsea fans either (because the polls say so). No briefings will convince anyone.
I am still hearing that Chelsea are looking at new goalkeepers this summer and itâs always been a job for the end of the window. Mike Maignan could still be revisited as well and is showing no signs of extending his AC Milan contract as of yet. None of that is over as of right now. Chelsea could easily go back in for him but I am yet to hear of any movements as of now.
I will believe it when I see it and I do have fears that they will decide not to bring a new goalkeeper and for me that would be criminal and a VERY poor decision. It will not undo the amazing work done this window, of course it wont. But I will not be able to call it a VERY good window unless we address the big goalkeeper problem we have had for many seasons now. We did the same with striker and look what happened there. We kept ignoring that problem and it caused us major issues in front of goal. Do NOT do the same for goalkeeper.
The best teams have the best and most trusted goalkeepers. If we want to elevate and challenge ALL season and not just in the final ten games, then we need a TOP goalkeeper and to upgrade what we have.
Iâll be honest, if we donât get a new goalkeeper, despite being excited with many of the other new signings we have made this summer, I wonât help but remain rather underwhelmed and I donât mean to sound spoilt by saying that. This for me was priority AFTER the 9 position, yet itâs still not been addressed. I have some faith that it will be because surely it has to be, and itâs obvious that they wanted to because they went for Maignan. You canât just tell everyone it was just a random opportunity that you looked at because we know Maignan has been wanted for three years at Chelsea.
So, go get him for a BARGAIN fee and make this a near perfect window (as well as sort some serious outgoings). Itâs that simple.
