According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have made plans to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in case Alexander Isak leaves.
Newcastle’s initial plan was to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and keep Isak. They had made it clear the Sweden international was not for sale as Liverpool made their approach for his services, and made a move for Ekitike, but Eintracht rejected their offer and eventually sold Ekitike to Liverpool. In the aftermath of that transfer, Isak has informed the club about his desire to move on and Liverpool are still thought to be the frontrunners for his signature.
This development has made the situation urgent for Newcastle, who have already lost backup striker Callum Wilson. Sesko, the 22-year-old Slovenia international who scored 21 goals and contributed six assists in 45 games for Leipzig in 2024/25, is the preferred option to solve their problem at this point.
Proposals are being prepared at St. James’s Park to be sent to Leipzig and Sesko – if Isak leaves.
