Two camps who have endured a nightmare start to proceedings, Aldershot will host bitter local rivals Eastleigh on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Aldershot might have eventually dragged themselves to National League safety last season, Tommy Widdringtonâs men look set for what could be another relegation scrap this time around. Getting the 2025/26 campaign underway with a 3-2 defeat away at Altrincham on August 9th, the former Bristol Rovers coach has a major job on his hands at the Recreation Ground. Last seen over the weekend falling to another action-packed 3-2 loss at home against Boston, Wednesdayâs hosts have lost all of their first three competitive appearances across all competitions. Getting their National League Cup campaign underway earlier in the month with a 2-1 defeat against Brightonâs U21s, Aldershot have shown some major defensive issues. Despite signing off last season with a 2-1 win against Yeovil, Widdringtonâs men have failed to record a single clean sheet across any format since the start of April.
As for the visitors, although some in Eastleighâs camp might have opened up the 2025/26 campaign with their sights set on booking a top-half return, the Spitfires find themselves in an almost identical position to their bitter local rivals. Last seen over the weekend falling to a 2-0 defeat at home against Gateshead, Kelvin Davisâ men have lost their opening two National League appearances. Likewise, signing off last season with another 2-0 loss against York City, the Blues remarkably mustered just a single win from any of their final 11 appearances last season – a rut that stemmed all the way back to March 4th. With some around the Silverlake Stadium starting to fear that a relegation scrap could be on the cards, Wednesdayâs guests have also shown their own respective issues at the back. In fact, Eastleigh have failed to notch a single clean sheet on their travels since the middle of January.
