Competition: MLS
Market: Columbus Crew win
Odds: 4/7 @ BetUS
Seeking an immediate response in the early hours of Sunday, Columbus will welcome a struggling New England to Ohio.
Starting with the hosts, while Columbus might have suffered late frustration earlier in the week as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate away at Toronto, the Crew will certainly be excited to make a return to home soil here. Winning their final Leagues Cup showdowns by an aggregate score of 4-1, Wilfried Nancyâs men have registered seven points from their previous three appearances across all competitions. Losing just one of their last six outings within 90 minutes, the former Montreal boss has seen his squad gain a reputation for their extended success in Ohio. Sat firmly in the driving seat to punch another play-off ticket in the Eastern Conference, Columbus should be smelling a golden opportunity this weekend. Last seen on home soil landing a 1-0 win against Mexican outfit Leon, Nancyâs side have won seven of their previous eight matchups in front of their own supporters – a run that stems all the way back to a 2-2 draw against Nashville on May 29th.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to losing ways last time out as they fell to a routine 2-0 defeat at home against Los Angeles, New England have endured another public struggle this season. Already watching their play-off dreams go up in smoke, Caleb Porterâs side have rightfully come under some serious scrutiny. Signing off July with a 3-1 drumming at the hands of Montreal, Sundayâs guests have lost four of their previous five MLS appearances. With their recent struggles underlined by an action-packed 5-3 defeat against the New York Red Bulls on July 17th, New England have mustered just a sole win from any of their last 11 straight showdowns – a rut that stems all the way back to June 1st. Pencilled in as a real underdog contender here, Porterâs side should also be concerned by a nightmare record against Columbus. In fact, they have lost all of their previous four meetings against Sundayâs hosts by an aggregate score of 12-2.
