Chelsea fans can expect major improvements from their team this week

Chelsea’s second game of the season is done and dusted, and it was one that left everyone smiling through the weekend.

A Friday night game can go either way – either you spend the whole weekend with a great feeling, watching other teams knowing you’ve done your part.

Or you’re frustrated and have to wait a whole extra day to see your team in action again so they can wash away the bad taste in your mouth.

Well, in this case Chelsea didn’t disappoint. They teased us with disaster – losing Cole Palmer to injury in the warmup and then conceding first.

But it was all just a bit of bait and switch. The Blues then roared back into life and tore apart West Ham with a devastating first half salvo.

They added two after half time as their rotten opposition totally collapsed. By the end there was superb buzz around as the Blues celebrated with their fans in an otherwise empty London Stadium. The perfect tonic to a frustrating opening day draw with no goals and few chances.

Palmer’s withdrawal also gave us the chance to see Estevao Willian in action from the start, something we absolutely loved to see.

It’s very important to not get carried away now, however. The Blues were superb but West Ham were just dire. Let’s not forget the Crystal Palace game just because there’s been another match since. Our struggles to break that far superior team down could easily be repeated if we don’t keep working hard and if we let this big win go to our heads.

This is the time to build on a big win, not get complacent. We’re sure Enzo Maresca is giving that exact message now.

Fulham will not be nearly as bad as the Hammers, and will likely make things difficult in the exact same way that Palace did. It will be very interesting to see how this team has improved since that opening day.

Given this is still effectively preseason for many players, we can probably expect them to come on in leaps and bounds between matches early in the season. Maybe that’s just being too hopeful though…

This will be a major week on the training pitch, with Wesley Fofana’s potential return another thing to look forward to next week. Just 6 days to go until the Blues are back in action, and we’re happy to say we can’t wait…
