I don’t need to go into all of this again because I covered it all and reasons as to why it’s always being played down in my article from Sunday which you can recap on here.
But Chelsea have been in the goalkeeper market all summer. I’ve been amazed to see that some people believe otherwise! Will they sign one? I don’t know, but they’ve absolutely been looking at goalkeeper options all summer and still are now. It’s a complicated situation though as I explained in the article, so this is why I’m unsure whether we will sign one.
The narrative that Chelsea are happy with what they’ve got though is just not true. They tried to sign Mike Maignan, they’ve registered interest in other stoppers and made enquiries. If they were happy with what they’ve got, why did they do all of that?
I understand why they want to play it all down in public, I get it. But this site has always been about reporting what is actually happening.
As I’ve said, I don’t think our interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma is anything too serious because his data isn’t great and he’s also on high wages. I don’t expect Chelsea to sign him or even make a move.
But Chelsea are certainly still looking at opportunities for new goalkeepers this summer, I just hold out very little hope that they will find out now at this point.
