Manchester United end Baleba pursuit

Considering the price for the player far too high, Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to The Athletic.

Such a resolution of this particular situation might’ve been expected, with Brighton determined to keep hold of Baleba, despite reports suggesting the 21-year-old was keen on moving to Old Trafford. The Seagulls have already sold the likes of Joao Pedro, Pervis Estupinan and Simon Adingra, and they’ve drawn the line there when it comes to allowing key players to leave.

Being in a very strong position in this matter – Baleba’s contract has three years left to run – Brighton set their demand at the same height as the fee Chelsea paid them to sign Moises Caicedo in 2023 – a whopping amount of £115million. United obviously have no intention of offering anywhere near that figure, so they’ve decided to move on to other potential targets to strengthen their midfield ranks.
