I’m sure that when players get a big move to a club like Chelsea then those closest to them are telling them things like, ‘grasp this opportunity with all you have and don’t waste a single moment’.
But I don’t even think anyone needed to tell this to Joao Pedro when he joined Chelsea from Brighton during the Club World Cup this summer, because he has quite literally had a dream start.
Maybe I didn’t watch enough of him at Brighton. I mean, I knew he was good, but I never knew he was THIS good. I never knew he was THAT guy. I never knew he was such a threat in the air. He’s surprised me in all the best ways. As I say, I rated him and I loved that Chelsea were signing him, but I don’t think anyone expected him to hit the ground running just as much as he has done and provide all the assets and attributes he has shown so far. He’s been good at 9, and good at 10. What an option and what a versatile player Chelsea now have in their squad.

Everyone also expected him to be a bit of a head case, and maybe he is and will be one at times. But so far, all I’ve seen is a player with a strong mentality and one who plays with maturity and is smart.
I’m sure there will be moments, nobody is perfect. But right now, Pedro has been a fantastic signing for Chelsea and long may it continue.
